LANDSCAPE PAINTER - Rene Tweehuysen

'Stillness and space', that's what landscape painter Rene Tweehuysen captures in his paintings.

Impressions
For landscape painter Rene Tweehuysen the Bildtse’s landscape (Friesland) and the nearby Wadden Sea form a great source of inspiration. The largest wetlands on earth with a unique landscape and an exceptionally rich nature. He is not an artist who has to travel for inspiration. It’s all around him and for the taking. In his surroundings the light has a silver hue and on the face of it everything is flat. But every detail set against this flatness immediately stands out as interesting and visually grabs our attention. With the ever changing weather conditions combined with human created forms unique shapes, lines and structures arise in this landscape. In the eyes of Tweehuysen these are essentially already existing pieces of "Land Art". This is what fascinates him and what he used as subject in his landscapes. He paints his framed impressions layer upon layer with varied, sometimes subtle and sometimes broad brushstrokes.

Realism and abstraction
A reflection of his abstract work in the 80’s can be seen in his current work. Not only the picture is important, but also the abstract image must be strong.
